This year's E3 was quite exciting with so many games lined up for this year, next year, and the the year after that that it's overwhelming. Along with the announcement of the next generation consoles ready to launch by the end of this year by Sony and Microsoft, there is a lot to look forward to after the show. More than anything, I saw a lot of First-Person Shooters and Third-Person Shooters. I think I saw at least over 15 games under those genres. It's a good thing I like shooters. Aside from that, Japanese developers really lit up the show this year. Last year, I felt there was little to talk about that really interested me. This year, there is just too much to talk about! I'll try to be brief with each one.
Sure-Buys (I plan to buy these games for sure):
[BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma]
Arc System Works had already won me over ever since I first got into the series. With 6 new characters, a continuation of the story from Continuum Shift, new skills and specials for every character, and some new mechanics, this game has captivated me and is sure to be an enjoyable experience.
[Dark Souls 2]
A few more gameplay videos were shown during E3 and has me pretty convinced to get the game. Dual wielding weapons actually have a use now!!!
[Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate]
I was planning on buying the game already when it was announced an ultimate edition was going to release. With extra characters and content at a lower price, I'm okay with waiting a bit longer before picking it up.
[Dynasty Warriors 8]
I was worried when I heard this was being developed. Dynasty Warriors 7 was such an amazing game to the series that I wasn't sure if Omega Force was ever going to live up to those standards again. But LOOK AT THIS!
[Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl]
It wasn't shown at E3, but it was announced right when E3 started. It's a remake of the original Etrian Odyssey with a story mode and difficulty selection. The original was way too grindy and hardcore. If it's anything like the 4th installment, then I'm looking forward to playing this.
[Final Fantasy XV (Formerly Versus XIII)]
Many fans had lost hope for Versus XIII as it failed to see progression year after year since its initial announcement. So it was a nice surprise when Versus XIII resurfaced as Final Fantasy XV and will be released on the Playstation 4. Some fans are upset with the real-world environment. For me, I don't care if it doesn't look like a Final Fantasy game anymore. This game looks amazing!
[Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13]
Alongside the announcement of FF15 is Lightning Returns. This iteration of FF13 seems to be a lot more action orientated which has me a lot more interested than if it were turn-based like traditional FF games. But it's a Final Fantasy game, I'll be buying it no matter what.
[Project X Zone]
I already pre-ordered it and tried it out. A few days before E3, Nintendo released a demo in the eShop of the 3DS for players to try it out. It only has 5 plays compared to most Demos that has 30 plays, but the demo take about 30 minutes to complete. It allows players to experience combat in the game where a team can chain and juggle an enemy 4-6 times, bring in support and a solo assist. I'm looking forward to this.
[Rise of the Triad]
A sequel/reboot to the game of the same name, this game already caught my interest when the trailer on Steam showed up two weeks ago. It's a fast-paced, First-Person Shooter that's reminiscent of Quake or Unreal with a campaign mode much like the original Rise of the Triad. It supposedly is set to release sometime this summer.
Convincing (One to keep an eye on):
[Bayonetta 2]
I was a bit surprised with the hair change in the characters, but I think they still look really stylish. The game is looking crazier than ever from what they showed at E3 and seems to be one of the biggest games exclusively on the Wii U made by a 3rd-Party developer. This game might convince some people to get a Wii U.
[Dragon's Crown]
This game is starting to feel old despite having not released yet because of how often it's been covered. But as the release date gets closer, more and more footages of the game convinces me that this will be a great game. I really miss traditional beat-em-ups and this game has that and more in store.
[Killer is Dead]
I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I've never played a SUDA51 game, so I'm not as excited about Killer is Dead as everyone else. But I do love hack-n-slash games which they showed a lot of from the trailer of this game at E3. It's still not clear if there's any connection to this game and "No More Heroes" or "Killer 7".
[Mirror's Edge 2]
This time around, the game will be open-world rather than linear. I wonder how that will play out. It seems a lot of game franchises are switching to open-world (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, The Division, Destiny, etc.)
[Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies]
As excited as I am about the newest install of shouting "Objection!", I'm still disappointed in the fact that it will be sold digitally only.
[Tales of Xillia]
I'm not a Tales fan, but I want to be. There are a lot of Tales games and most of them look great. This one is no exception, though a little late to the party. Japan already had Tales of Xillia 2 out for a while now and we haven't even gotten the first one yet.
[The Last of Us]
This release just last night with critic scores averaging 95/100. I haven't seen numbers like those in a while (Bioshock Infinite hit 94). The game does sound like a lot of fun though.
[Time and Eternity]
Very little was shown at E3 for Time and Eternity (like 30 seconds of new footage, that's it). But from what was shown, there seems to be a bit of action in the turn-based battles which was what I was hoping for. It similar to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars where skills can be followed up or attacks can be blocked/dodged. I was hoping to see more of "The Guided Fate Paradox".
[Tom Clancy's The Division]
I have to say that this was one of the most interesting games shown at E3 that wasn't already known to the general public. An open world shooter with multiplayer centric gameplay and capabilities of playing on a tablet as a drone just sounds so immersive and involving. Sadly, it's set for only consoles. I'd like to play a game like this on PC.
[X from Monolith Soft]
It's official name could be "X", but no one knows for sure. It's possible that it's connected to Xenoblade Chronicles or the Xeno series in general, but the game does look promising from what it has shown so far.
[Ys: Memories of Celceta]
If I were to get a PS Vita, this would be one of the games I'd get. The combat to the 4th Ys was just like the originals where the player bumps into enemies to kill them. The remake plays a lot more like the newer Ys games with a more dynamic perspective and stronger Action-orientated gameplay.
Interesting (Caught my attention, but not entirely convinced just yet):
[Alien Rage]
I didn't see any coverage on this game. But there was a video on it and it looked nice. Perhaps it was just too plain for the press to really give it any attention? I still want to see more of this game in the future.
[Bravely Default Flying Fairy]
Nothing new was shown at E3, but this game was listed. Perhaps there was a demo for attendees to try out? If there was, no one recorded or reported anything as far as I know. It's interesting that Square-Enix decided to bring this over.
[Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2]
I'm near the end of finishing Lords of Shadow 1 and I have conflicting thoughts about the game. Still, the fact that there's a sequel makes me think there will be a cliff-hanger at the end of the first one. I know what's coming, but I guess that's why I'll be keeping an eye out for the sequel.
[Deep Down]
The new project that Capcom is working on sounds like Dragon's Dogma, but is supposedly a new IP. I want to see more of this new project.
[Destiny]
Bungie joined up with Activision and has created Destiny, an open-world, multiplayer First-Person Shooter. The gameplay they showed was between okay and pretty cool. I guess I want to see more and want to be convinced to get it.
[Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain]
I can't say I'm very excited about the newest Metal Gear Solid, but I do plan on playing it sometime or another when it finally comes out. I've played MGS 2-4 and enjoyed them so I mainly want to see what new stories there is to tell in the series.
[Sunset Overdrive]
Another open-world first-person shooter. I'm not saying it to sound like it's a bad thing, I'm just pointing out how many there were at E3. No gameplay was shown, but the trailer does have me interested to finding out more about the game.
[Titanfall]
From the guys that left EA to create Call of Duty with Activision and left them to work under EA again, Titanfall seems to boast Mech fights along with the First-Person Shooting aspects. I'm not sure how I feel about this game yet.
[Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z]
Hack-n-Slash gameplay, Ninjas, and Zombies. This game seems to have it all. But will it be fun? Not sure yet.
E3 Winner: Super Smash Bros.
Source: Youtube Channel IGN
I actually wasn't expecting anything to be shown for Super Smash Bros. when it seems like they just started development on it not too long ago. It was already evident that a portable version was going to be made alongside a console version and sure enough it was revealed to have a 3DS version as well as a Wii U version. The 3DS version will have the same amount of characters as the Wii U version with different levels that's more relevant to portable games like Super Mario 3D Land as opposed to Super Mario Galaxy. The other big surprise besides the reveal of "The Villager" from Animal Crossing are the introduction of Mega Man and The Wii Fit Trainer. The Wii Fit Trainer was shocking, funny and confusing which brought on a lot of attention from the internet and those at the show. But it's the reveal of Mega Man that has a lot of fans excited, I know I am! Super Smash Bros. is definitely the game I was most excited for from all the games showed at E3 this year.
Biggest Disappointment:Phantasy Star Online 2
The lack of an appearance is one thing. Having no mention of it at all just made me sad. The last thing we heard from Sega is that the Western release was delayed. When is Sega going to tell us anything about Phantasy Star Online 2? How do they intend to hype this? Phantasy Star Online 2 is supposed to be the biggest release this year for me and yet I see no sign of it progressing or releasing this year.
That's all for this year's E3. It was quite a show and one I'm sure Microsoft just wants to forget. The true battles begins this fall when the holiday season approaches and the next generation consoles finally release.

NewNews - Wrap-up of E3 2012
As this year's E3 comes to a close, I had to wonder if we got anything out of it this time around.
[What's New]
-Beyond: Two Souls:
From the creators of Heavy Rain (which I haven't played yet). Just from the preview itself caused quite the reaction from the community. I'm not incredibly interested in the game, but what they showed during Sony's Press Confernce was impressive.
-ZombiU: One of the hopes that Nintendo and the community has for the new Wii U is the return of core gaming and its fans. ZombiU showcased a hardcore Zombie Survival FPS that works around using the new touchscreen controller, motion control, and classic button layouts.
-Project P-100: A game being developed by Platinum games, the studio that brought awesome games such as Bayonetta and Vanquish as well as upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengance.
-Gears of War: Judgment: I never played through any of the GoW games so I can't really be excited for this; however, some might like the fact that "People Can Fly" Studios is working with Epic Games on this one.
-Watch Dogs: It's one of those open-world games like GTA, L.A. Noire, Deus Ex: HR, or Saint's Row: The Third with a cyberpunk theme like Syndicate. It looks interesting, but I'm not hearing much from the community about this game for some reason.
-Xbox SmartGlass: The concept entertains some good ideas for games, but the whole announcement seemed like it wanted to take over all of media rather than talk about games. I was happy to hear Sony having something similar in the works called "Playstation Mobile" though they announced it last year as Playstation Suite so it's just a matter of it actually happening and being put to use.
[What interested me]
-ZombiU: I was hoping to see a lot more games on the Wii U mentioned at E3 this year, but it didn't seem like there were that many. Ubisoft seems to make great use of the new touchscreen controller and is one of the first games to draw back the core gaming community into Nintendo.
-Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate: I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I was happy to hear another handheld, 2D Castlevania was in development. On the other hand, it's following the "Lords of Shadow" subtitle and is being developed by the same studios. "Lords of Shadow" is a fun game, but I felt that it lost some attributes and characteristics that I loved about Castlevania (and a lot of people seem to like it because it feels a lot like God of War). I really miss listening to Michiru Yamane's work in the franchise.
-Heroes of Ruin: There were already news about the game way before E3, but I didn't look into it until this week. I like the concepts discussed in the interview, but I'm not sure how well the gameplay will be when going through it. I'm looking out for this one. It's one of the games convincing me to get a 3DS along with Castlevania: LoS-MoF and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.
-The Last Story: This already came out in the first quarter of last year in Japan and many Western fans were disheartened to hear that it wasn't going to see a NA and EU launch. It was a joyous day to hear that XSEED Games have taken the role to bring it over to NA. It was great to hear about it at E3 this year, up until it was mentioned to be postponed to a later date. I'm in no rush, not like I got Xenoblade Chronicles yet or anything.
I'm not sure what to make of this year's E3. I saw a ton of games I'm looking forward to playing (yes, many being sequels), yet I felt disappointed. There's wasn't "that one game" which made me jaw drop and say "whoa, I want that game!" Last year, "that one game" was "Dragon's Dogma". I tried the demo a few nights ago and really liked what I saw so far out of it (despite reading mixed reviews about the game). There wasn't a game in particular that really stuck with me this year and it kind of makes me feel a bit empty. I was hoping to hear Sega releasing a NA version of Phantasy Star Online 2, but that's wishful thinking. I was hoping to hear about a new model for the 3DS with both analogs and a rumored larger screen, but Nintendo has denied rumors. Most people within the industry, not the gaming community, are saying that 3rd-party companies saved this year's show. I think I can agree with them on that considering a lot of the "good news" came from announcements and trailers of games developed by 3rd-party companies. I think mainly Nintendo and Ubisoft won me over this year. Nintendo's highlight on what games were coming out on the Wii U and what it was capable of got me a bit more interested in the new console (ZombiU really did look fun to play) and a few new games coming out on the 3DS (mainly Castlevania) has somewhat convinced me to pick one up (I'm still waiting for a new model). Ubisoft's name was mentioned countless times with titles like Assassin's Creed 3, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and FarCry 3 under their license. The reveal of 4-player co-op and a map-maker for FarCry 3 was one of the very few surprises that got my attention. Another game under Ubisoft's name that has me interested is ShootMania Storm being developed by the creators of TrackMania. This concludes this year's E3. This year's E3 may not have been as exciting, but it has left us a lot of anticipation for the many games shown.
[What's New]
-Beyond: Two Souls:
NewNews - Day 3 E3 2012
This'll be the wrap up of E3, so I'm going to list them (Alphabetically) and review the week tomorrow:
-Age of Wushu
-Arctic Combat
-Beyond: Two Souls
-Borderlands 2
-Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2
-Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate (Perhaps one of the games that'll make me buy a 3DS)
-Continent of the Ninth (I was invited to the beta, I totally forgot! GRAH!)
-Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (4 new bosses, I hear)
-Defiance
-DmC: Devil May Cry
-End of Nations
-Final Fantasy Dimensions (Classic Final Fantasy on Tablets)
-Forza Horizon
-Gears of War: Judgment
-Grimlands
-Guardians of Middle Earth
-Heroes of Ruin (Another game that might convince me to pick up a 3DS)
-Injustice: Gods Among Us
-Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (get it? Three D's!)
-Lost Planet 3
-Neverwinter
-Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge
-Otherland
-Planetside 2
-Project P-100
-RaiderZ
-Resident Evil 6
-Tekken Tag Tournament 2
-Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
-Tomb Raider
-XCOM: Enemy Unknown
-Warface (It's turning out really nicely)
-Watch Dogs
I know I've missed some (or a lot), but it seems difficult to find specifics when all the big name publishers are getting all the coverage. It's quite a big difference being at E3 compared to watching coverages of it at home judging by the experience I had going to E3 back in 2010. I never realized how many games at the convention are ignored.

NewNews - Day 2 E3 2012
There's a lot to cover, so here we go:
[New Super Mario Bros. U]
More 4-player co-op shenanigans ensue as the new Super Mario Bros. game releases on the Wii U.
[Wizardry Online]
The Hardcore Action MMORPG seemed to have been demoed at E3 with an announcement of commercial launch later this year in NA and EU. I made mention of this game last year in October and I'm still pretty interested in trying it out.
[The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest]
Part of Nintendo's Wii U "Nintendo Land" game collections, players can play cooperatively with their "Miis" dressed as Link.
[Scribblenauts Unlimited]
The Scribblenauts series continues on the Nintendo Wii U and possibly on the 3DS.
[Pikmin 3]
With the series skipping the Wii entirely, fans of Pikmin will be happy to see the return of the little Pikmins on the new Wii U.
[Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance]
MGS fans have been waiting for a while now, and I think they want it now more than ever with the reveal of some actual gameplay.
[Persona 4 Arena]
There's so many fighters releasing this year that it's difficult to follow. Still, the fact that this is being developed by Arc System Works makes me interested.
[Star Wars 1313]
This is getting a lot of attention, but to me it looks like Uncharted in space. Not that it's a bad thing, Uncharted is a great game and perhaps it'll be a great formula for a Star Wars themed game.
[Sleeping Dogs]
Dark and gritty, the game reminds me of games like Kane & Lynch. I'm not sure what to make of the game yet, but it seems to have captured the attention of many gamers.
[Splinter Cell: Blacklist]
The Splinter Cell formula had started to get boring after a while and surprised the game community with Splinter Cell Conviction with a more action-orientated stealth (it was really fun). Young Sam returns with that same formula and it looks pretty good so far.
[FarCry 3]
So far, not many announcements have surprised me at the convention. The reveal of a dedicated 4-player co-op mode along with the open-world, single-player campaign and a map maker really caught my attention. I really need a nice computer for this one.
[Call of Duty: Black Ops 2]
This is routine and everyone should know it's coming. Love it or hate it, it's up to you.
[Dead Space 3]
I haven't played the second one, but the first one was pretty fun up until my save file crashed.
[Rayman Legends]
What a great way to utilize the Wii U hardware. 4-player local co-op games are becoming a rare option for games nowadays and it's good to see that developers still care about them.
[Medal of Honor: Warfighter]
I really enjoyed the single-player campaign from the one released in 2010, and I still believe that it had the best audio out of any FPS I have ever played. I'm hoping that this one will be that much better with a more balanced and versatile multiplayer.
[Dust 514]
A free-to-play online game on a Playstation 3? That's cool. If only my PS3 had more Hard Drive space.
[Ninja Gaiden Clans]
This trailer says nothing about the game. And the fact it's for smartphone makes me less excited.
[Dynasty Warriors 7 Empires]
No one covered Dynasty Warriors 7 Empires! I was really sad to find out that Warriors Orochi 3 was download only and not retail. If I ever get bored with Xtreme Legends, I'll have Empires to look forward to by February of next year.
[Dead or Alive 5]
Finally a DoA game that isn't on Xbox! I might get this. As I've said, so many fighting games this year.
[Counter-Strike: Global Offensive]
Counter-Strike has always been a "fool around" game for me and I'm happy to see another iteration of it release with an even more stronger community than ever before. Also to hear that it's only $15 is nice too.
[Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2]
The fact that they decided to make a 2nd one makes me think that there's still more they could add and improve to the original. The first one felt kind of clunky and stiff, though I haven't played it extensively.
[Elder Scrolls Online]
A lot of TES fans seem to be really upset at such an announcement rather than excited as it seems to be a game utilizing the MMORPG mechanics of combat (such as World of Warcraft, Aion, and Star Wars: The Old Republic) rather than the usual First-Person Action. We'll see how this plays out.
Whew, I'll try to wrap up the rest tomorrow.

NewNews - Day 1 E3 2012
Attendees of E3 have entered the convention and the press is covering all they can right now with the newest games at the show. I've started gathering what I could find and would like to share some highlights of the show thus far:
[Microsoft Xbox Smart Glass]
To allow the ability to use your phone or tablet and gather more information from your Xbox 360 is a cool addition, but what was really cool (that isn't shown in the video link above) is being able to interact with the games that you play such as using a tablet as a map, HUD, or device for customizing weapons. This is probably a response to Nintendo's Wii U controller they showcased last year as well as the growing usage of tablets and smartphones.
[Sony Playstation Mobile]
Originally called "Playstation Suite", Sony had something similar to the Smart Glass in the works and has revealed it at their press conference. It's an interesting concept and I hope it gets put into good use.
[The Last of Us]
I saw this gameplay during Sony's Press Conference and was blown away.
[Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale]
Sony's "Super Smash Bros.-esque" fighting game with a cast of characters from Playstation games. The concept sounds cool, but the game looks very unbalanced right now (much like TMNT Smash-Up was like).
[Pokémon Conquest]
I'm glad they're bringing this over. Anyone interested in Japan's Sengoku era history (games like Sengoku Basara, Samurai Warriors, Nobunaga's Ambition), Pokémon (which seems to still have a large community) and/or Tactics games (games like Fire Emblem, Tactics Ogre, Disgaea) might get a kick out of this.
[ZombiU]
Ubisoft starts off the new Nintendo console with a game for core gamers. I watched a few gameplay footages and it seems rather challenging.
[Final Fantasy XIV]
Take a look at the screenshots Luke Plunkett took over at Kotaku for the new update Square-Enix has for FF14. The UI is a lot more sleek and is akin to Phantasy Star Online 2's (or perhaps more closely to FF13's) general look which is a lot cleaner and modern.
[God of War Ascension]
After playing God of War 1 & 2, I was kind of worn out and didn't really take interest in the series anymore. But during this reveal at Sony's Press Conference, it seems like the developers might be going in the right direction with this one. I hated how sluggish the combat and overall gameplay felt in the first two games (haven't played 3 yet), but this iteration seems to convince me otherwise.
[Assassin's Creed 3]
I didn't really look into AC3 until yesterday watching Sony's Press Conference and I was surprised by how the game looked and played using the wilderness as the environment instead of buildings. This looks promising.
[Crysis 3]
I'm not sure what to expect out of this new installment. Crysis 1 had better atmosphere and story, but Crysis 2 had a significantly better gameplay mechanic and flow. Maybe Crysis 3 can find a balance and have an overall great experience.
More to come as the week goes on!

VGCulture - Reflection on E3 2011
Honestly, this was a long week for me. I've been sick for the past week, had a lot of work to do, and seem to be lacking in strength despite going to sleep earlier now. For E3, it was fast like always. In 3 days, over 700 games were announced, showcased, and demoed at the floor show of the LA Convention Center. Here are some of my choice highlights of this year's E3 2011:
Dark Souls
I was already excited to hear about a sequel to Demon's Souls, but to watch some of the gameplay and hear about some of the changes between its predecessors and its current state was a total treat:
Source: Youtube Channel IGNentertainment
Dark Souls is sure to deliver a compelling experience as Demon's Souls did with challenging gameplay, monstrous bosses, and epic multiplayer quests and PVP. This is one game I'm definitely going to buy.
Nintendo Wii U
So it's not a big surprise that Nintendo came out with a new system as speculations have raised such rumors since the end of last year. Even with confirmed reports of Nintendo having a touch screen on their new controller, the system was a really big buzz and had an impression on me as well as many others. I guess I'm excited about it since I'm hoping for more developers working on Nintendo systems once again for 3DS as well as the Wii U (also hoping for a decline in Wii game prices so I can buy some more), but I know I'm not going to buy it the day it releases.
Blacklight Retribution
Blacklight: Tango Down was one of the games that had the biggest impression on me when I was at E3 2010 last year. It wasn't entirely new and innovative in terms of First-Person Shooters, but I liked the futuristic theme, the customizations, and challenging mission modes. The game didn't take off and had a lot of problems that needed to be fixed, but it wasn't done in time to save it (at least for the PC version) as server went empty very quickly. A while ago, there was reports that a sequel was in the making and that it was going to be free and published by Perfect World. It was demoed at E3 this year, but I didn't really see any mentions by any media other than MMOsite.com
Source: Youtube Channel MovieManiacsDE
Blacklight: Tango Down had a lot of problems that needed to be fixed such as incredibly long match making and intermission times, in-game lag, players die faster than those of Call of Duty Modern Warfare which is already pretty fast, map designs that favored spawn campers, and many more. But despite all that, I enjoyed playing Blacklight: Tango Down. Multiplayer is empty now (literally), but I still jump into the game once in a while to play Black Ops (mission mode). And from the video, it looks like Blacklight improved tremendously in Retribution. I am very excited to see more on the game and am anticipating for its official release.
Professor Layton and the Last Specter, Dragon Quest Monster - Joker 2, Ninja Gaiden 3, DMC (Devil May Cry), The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Soul Calibur V, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sonic Generations, Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
All these follow ups and sequels reminded me that I need to finish up their predecessors if I want to be ready for their releases. Out of this collection, I would say that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the one I would want to buy first since I'm so behind everything else.
Dragon's Dogma
This is one of the new titles that isn't a follow up that struck me as impressive. The aspects I liked most from the trailers were the large bosses, open-world gameplay, and European medieval setting.
Source: Youtube Channel BNGamesReviews
It won't be out till next year, so my excitement was extinguished as there so many other games to look forward to that are coming out soon.
Battlefield 3 & Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
These two are an obvious center of attention to many First-Person Shooter fans. Both are looking pretty interesting so far, but I would like to see more. I'm still not very sure how I feel about MW3 because of all the tension between ex-Infinity Ward employees and Activision, but I'm still hoping that the game turns out to be really good. The story and gameplay drove quite a bit of influence into the industry and it would be a shame to end the trilogy on a bad note. Battlefield 3 has convinced me with its trailers of the campaign that it's going to be a much deeper experience for single-player than any other Battlefield has done before. I'm not sure what multiplayer is going to be like, but I hope they don't cut out too much on the PS3 since I plan to get that version due to my laptop's inability to support such a demanding game. I mean, look at these graphics:

I may have missed some other great games to mention, but they'll get their glory when it's time for them to release.

GameLight - Games of E3 2011 Day 2
I actually had a difficult time trying to find games that I haven't heard about or seen trailers to already. Despite that, I tried to scrounge up what I could and share what I can:
Ninja Gaiden 3 - It's surprising, but it's going to be available on the Nintendo WiiU. I didn't think such a violent game was going to make it onto the WiiU, but it is. Not that I really care since I have yet to beat the first one and haven't even tried the 2nd.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - I saw this last year at E3 and didn't get to play it! My friends tried it and thought it was pretty good in terms of mimicking actual sword movements from the wiimote. I didn't pay too much attention to it this year, especially since I'm not even at E3 this time, but I'll keep an eye out for the release.
Kirby Mass Attack - A DS game that isn't a platformer, but sort of like a strategy game of sorts. Remember Kirby Canvas Curse? It's kind of like that, but with lots of Kirbys:
Source: Youtube Channel foreverkirby
Final Fantasy XIII-2 - I WILL play FF13 some time soon as soon as I finish Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Devil May Cry 4, and Eternal Sonata! Looking at FF13-2, it doesn't look like anything too new. But it's a Final Fantasy game and I will buy it and play through it despite how much critics and fanboys hate it!
Dragon's Crown - I was hoping to see a new new, a new franchise among all the big name series that's getting their sequels or follow ups. I ran into a trailer for Dragon's Crown and I can't really determine whether it's going to be a game to look out for or one to pass. For one thing, the boobs on the Amazon and Sorceress is just rediculous...On the other hand, it kind of looks like a 4-player Golden Axe. Hmm...
Source: Youtube Channel GAMEBLOGfr
Dragon's Dogma - Okay, a game I've never heard of and am seeing for the first time. Wow, I am very impressed and already want it. Action game with open-ended gameplay with European Medieval setting? Seriously, I blame Demon's Souls for wanting to play all these types of Medieval style games, but god dang this game looks amazing!
Source: Youtube Channel IGNentertainment
Dark Souls - I just mentioned Demon's Souls just now, of course I've got to mention its follow up "Dark Souls". Showing gameplay of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls doesn't do justice for how fun the game is. The game is about exploration, patience, and learning from past mistakes. Most gameplay videos show the player slashing up zombies that just stand there, so it usually looks boring. The most exciting part for non-fans is probably the dragon, but it doesn't show nearly enough. Doesn't matter, definite buy for me.
Source: Youtube Channel IGNentertainment
Street Fighter X Tekken - The game looks pretty good thus far, but watching the gameplay videos didn't have nearly the same effect that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 did for me. I'll probably get the game eventually when it comes out. I like Street Fighter and Tekken, and to have them mix into one game is pretty interesting (and still weird, mainly for the Tekken characters).
Soul Calibur V - I'm not sure if I even care about this one because I barely touched Soul Calibur IV. I played Soul Calibur II like crazy back in the Gamecube days, but I had more time and less games back then. If I ever get around to fully playing enough of Soul Calibur IV that would warrant a fifth one, then I'll get it.
Inversion - Third-Person Shooter with gravity defying elements. Half of me says "cool!" The other half is going "meh..." I've been playing so many shooters these past 6 years that I've become very critical of them. I can definitely tell the differences between them and appreciate each one, but there are a lot of shooters which seem to be copy (parts)-paste with glitters on top of the most basic of shooters which makes for a rather unremarkable experience. Let's hope Inversion isn't one of them.
Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online - I guess it's cool that they're bringing SF3:TS back to the players with online support, but I can only imagine hardcore fans buying it. SF3:TS is tourney intensive and I've seen a lot of non-tourney players play it competitively at the arcade. So it's not going to really attract a large crowd, but I suppose that's what Capcom wants.
Super Mario 3D - I never know what to think about Mario games anymore. Everytime I look at one, I don't think too much of it. But I sincerely have a lot of fun when playing a Mario game. So watching the trailer for the game didn't do too much for me, but I'm hoping to one day play it on the 3DS.
Asura's Wrath - The gameplay looks interesting. It kind of reminds me of Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star where he delivers ridiculous amounts of punches to the enemy. I'm not too crazy about the game so far, but I will keep an eye on it.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - I am still trying to get through the first Deus Ex right now and find that the new one has a rather...direct approach. I'm sure there's still going to be a lot of stealth, and I'm very open minded about changes. A lot of Deus Ex fans seemed to have not liked the sequel, but I heard good things about that one too. I'm hoping that Deus Ex: Human Revolution will turn out to be a hit, it looks really fun.
Sonic Generations - I actually am not up to date with Sonic games, and a lot of disappointment seemed to have come from the fans in the past decade or so of releases. Sonic Generations will have both 3D and 2D gameplay, but will that really satisfy the community?
Devil May Cry (DMC) - I still find it weird to see a younger, disgruntled Dante with a disfigured face that doesn't seem like it'd be able to grow up to the Dante we know and love. So far, the gameplay and trailers haven't really appealed to me, but I think seeing some boss battles might eventually change my mind later on.
Crimson Alliance - It's a Gauntlet-like game for Xbox Live Arcade. It actually looks pretty decent. Seeing how Torchlight is limited to only one player, I'm sure Xbox 360 players who are looking for a co-op game to play would like to try this game out.
XCOM - Don't hate me...but I've never played or even heard of Xcom until the FPS reboot was announced...I'm sorry...But yeah, the reboot is actually looking pretty good right now. As long as it's not a straight up FPS and has some depth in its gameplay, I might be interested in trying it out.
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - It looks like it's coming out on 11/11/11. I've never played a Elder Scroll game before, but now is probably a good time to whip out the ES4: Oblivion sitting on my shelf and give it a go!
Source: Youtube Channel Gawdsbud
Kid Icarus Uprising - It's been announced that there will be 3 versus 3 capabilities. The gameplay looks magnificent and multiplayer looks rather challenging. A lot of good games for 3DS will be coming out this summer, but I'm still not sure if it's worth getting one right now.
Rhythm Heaven - I'm not sure if I really want this if it doesn't have the option to switch the audio to Japanese. I played the original two Rhythm Tengoku (or Rhythm Heaven in English) in Japanese and cringed at the English dubs when it was translated. Give me a Japanese audio option!!!
Dead or Alive Dimension - Dead or Alive is one of the fighting games I don't have in my collection of fighting games, and I'd like to get this one if I get a 3DS as previous titles were released on consoles I didn't own. So far, the game looks pretty solid. The only problem is finding friends who would want to play a fighting game (other than Street Fighter) with me, hmm...(I have the same problem with MMOs).
That's it for now, I have no idea what to report tomorrow. I'm hoping for a surprise.

VGCulture - E3 2011 Day 1
ARGH! I wish I was actually at E3 taking pictures, doing interviews and seeing what's actually there. You'd be surprised how many games are showcased there but aren't covered by the media. Too many big name companies outshining all the smaller games. I guess I'll check out the indie game sites to see what they got there at E3 later. Anyways, there were a lot of big name companies that announced and showed stuff that got me excited. Here was one of the biggest ones:
Nintendo Announces Wii U and controller
IT'S A TOUCH SCREEN CONTROLLER! Wait what? The rumors were true?
Source: Youtube Channel IGNentertainment
So my first reaction was "wow, it's so chunky. It can't be comfortable to hold." Well, it doesn't look as bad when viewing the back of the controller. I can't really tell unless I've tried it myself. It didn't get me as hyped up as the Wii did when I first heard its announcement (and the first Wii video didn't even have game footages), but I'm already convinced at buying one (probably not immediately) looking at the possibilities of the system.
Source: Youtube Channel IGNentertainment
It actually reminds me of how the Gamecube had the Gameboy Advance compatibility to play using the screen on the gameboy and the TV (Zelda and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles). The Wii U controller has a gyroscope, motion sensing, a mic, speakers, camera, and DS style touch screen. And it seems like a lot of Wii peripherals will still be used for this new system (smart move). There are so many possibilities with this new combined concept, I really hope developers work hard on making REAL games and stop making gimmicky casual games.
New Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS
NEW SUPER SMASH BROS! Not only that, but also on the 3DS. It was hinted that there will be some sort of connectivity between the two when they're finally released. Oh man, that is some pretty heavy news, but we're probably not going to see it until 2013 or 2014 see how Super Smash Bros. Brawl took so long. Doesn't matter though, because they took the time to make it as balanced and refined as possible and didn't delay in indefinitely.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Gameplay footages
Am I excited about MW3? Not really. Do I want to play it? Yeah. I feel really weird about Modern Warfare 3 actually being developed and all with a lot of the original crew gone. The only thing I can think of being able to support them is looking out for their future projects and buying them when they release. With Modern Warfare 3, I may want to try it before I decide to buy it for the multiplayer. If it's campaign I want to play only, I'll just borrow it. Anyways, footage here:

Battlefield 3 Frostbite 2 Features
The game looks amazing and the graphics are incredible! With audio, I hope it's as good as Medal of Honor (2010) because that game seriously got me hooked because of the quality of recording and output of the sound. There's going to be Multiplayer co-op campaign too!

VGCulture - E3 2011 Press Conference (Sony & Microsoft)
E3 starts tomorrow. Tomorrow, we'll get a glimpse at the future on what's to come, what to expect, and what might fail. Press Conferences for Sony and Microsoft were held today that piqued my curiousity (more like shocked me into going OMGWTFBBQ!).
Sony's PSP2 is called the Sony PlayStation Vita
Wait, what? It's going to be called Vita? Before I start saying how odd and dumb of a name it is, I am reminded that I thought the Gameboy Dual Screen was an odd name (but it caught on with DS). I also thought the change from Nintendo Revolution to Wii was absurd. But it became normal and people were okay with it. I'm not sure, but maybe it'll just catch on just by calling it the PSV.
"Vita means life," said Kazuo Hirai, president and group chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment. "And we're confident that Vita will be the first product that blurs the lines between reality and interactive entertainment." - Cnet Reviews

Microsoft announces...Halo 4
Though I'm not surprised that the series didn't end just like that, I was shocked to see that it followed the numerical order of the main series. What happened to "ending the fight?" I feel bad that I didn't play the campaign of Halo 3. I didn't even get a chance to play ODST and Reach at all, so I have no idea what Halo is like now. I liked Halo when I had access to play it (friend's house, university's arcade, PC), but now I'm so out of the loop that I've almost forgotten about Halo. At the moment, who cares about Halo 4. Let me play the last three Halo releases!

Mass Effect 3 is compatible with Kinect
How...odd. Playing the game entirely of motion control sounds like a frustrating scenario, but I think there are things about it that can be really cool. Being able to point to a direction and use voice command to have your team mates attack, suppress fire, defend and such sound much more practical than trying to deal with weird HUD commands and aiming your cursor everywhere. Also, maybe they'll had head tracking so you can move in and out of cover in real-time. But what was announced was the ability to command things with your voice while the player still uses a controller to play the game.

I hope they show a lot of good games this year. I was excited by a lot of games last year, but I think it's mainly because I was actually there. It would've been interesting to go again this year, oh well.

VGCulture - E3 2011 Games looking forward to
The Electronic Entertainment Exposition (E3) is a big event for the Interactive Entertainment Industry that happens once every year and lets us peer into the future of what's to come and this year's E3 is less than a month away. I had the privilege of attending last year's E3 2010 for the first time and I have to say that it was a magical experience (except when I got severely ill the 2nd day and had to sweat it out in the hotel the whole day). A lot of people were rather disappointed with last year's E3 and didn't think too much of the games showcased, but I saw a lot of games I had interest in and bought some of them when they finally released. It was a really fun experience and I'd like to go again one day once I'm eligible (only those in the game industry or press are allowed in. I was an exception last year). So E3 is coming around again this year and I have high hopes for the line of games for 2011. Here are some select choices I'd like to see more of at E3 (In alphabetical order):
3DS Games - Fans of Nintendo and their portable systems are waiting for the games that make us want the system, and so we would really like to see some gameplay footages of games that'd make us want a 3DS.
Battlefield 3 - I started the series with Battlefield 2 and played it very sparsely. But ever since Battlefield: Bad Company 2, I've had new found faith in the franchise and am looking forward to an amazing single-player experience as well as an exciting multiplayer mode.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - I'm not sure how I feel about this one since a lot of the original creators left (or were kicked out), but I guess I'm really curious about how they'll conclude the story after creating such high standards in the past two installments. Here's hoping for a great game and for Activision to stop abusing their power over the development.
Dark Souls - I just finished beating Demon's Souls a 2nd time last week with a magician class and so I am very anxious to see what incredible new features will be added to Dark Souls. Demon's Souls is such an engaging RPG that it's hard to put down. Dark Souls will definitely be a game to look out for this year.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - All I can say is "meh" as the game does look great and I have interest in playing it, but it's not a high priority listed game for me. I hope the company is alright since I heard they were recently hacked (I don't think I applied to work for them, so my resume stuff should be safe, haha).
Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Not exactly excited as much as being reminded "hey, I bought FF13 the week it came out and I still haven't played it yet. PLAY THE FREAKING GAME!" Despite many negative receptions from the fans, I think I'll enjoy FF13. Not sure about FFXIII-2 yet though, hopefully it'll be good?
Final Fantasy Versus XIII - I think all the FF fans are waiting for this one, and with good reason. The graphics look amazing, the gameplay is more action orientated, and the story sounds decent so far. I'm a Final Fantasy Fan, so I undoubtedly want to play though all of the games (or at least collect them) aside from the Online ones since I don't want to dedicate my life to playing them.

Mass Effect 3 - I feel bad since I bought both ME 1 & 2 but have yet to play through them. I bought it for PC, and haven't been playing it since I've been playing more PS3. Mass Effect 3 will have multiplayer I think and I'm excited for that since it's a game series my friend really likes. So it'll be a game we could go through together. I've got to play the other two soon if I want to know what's going on by the time the 3rd one releases.
Metal Gear Solid Rising - I recently started getting into the Metal Gear Solid series (recent as in last summer) and am looking forward to an action game out of it. I'm actually still working through MGS 3 and soon after 4, and I have still yet to play through 1 yet. MGS 2 wasn't too bad and I beat it in a week (8 hours). MGS 3 is proving to be much more difficult (especially since I'm playing on normal instead of very easy, haha). From the gameplay they have shown for Rising so far, I expect it to be as well received as others in the series.
Ninja Gaiden III - Whaat? The 3rd one is about to release? I guess it's been a while since a new one came out, but I'm still working on the first one Sigma. I guess I'd better finish the first and buy the 2nd!
Phantasy Star Online 2 - I am looking forward to PSO2 the most. This is one game I would go out and buy on the first day and play for hours. I'm not sure if I want to get it for PC or not yet, but it seems to be only for PC so far. PSO2 is adding a ton of new gameplay elements and recreating everything that was great about the entire series back into this new iteration of the game. I really hope we get to hear some news (perhaps a release date) for a North American release. Until then, I still have Universe and Portable to keep me busy.

Street Fighter X Tekken - Okay, so we keep hearing about SF X Tekken, but what about the other one that was announced? Tekken X Street Fighter where the game plays like Tekken? At E3, I'd like for them to show more gameplay and characters that's going to be in the game.
The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim - I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know what Elder Scroll was until Oblivion came out and I even have access to it now and still haven't played it yet. Despite that, the videos shown for Skyrim was pretty amazing and inspired me to perhaps play Oblivion sitting on my shelf all this time. This is one to look out for. But in terms of RPGs, Phantasy Star Online 2 and Dark Souls take priority on my want list.
Now this is just ones we know of that I selectively chose to list. E3 is about games we've never heard of getting their big announcement in the industry or the public and to showcase things that were rumored but not confirmed (such as Nintendo's new console. What the heck is it going to be like?). Well, less than a month and we'll have a lot of new games to look forward to.
