NewNews - Xbox One Launch Games Line-Up

These are the games you can buy/install and start playing on your new Xbox One:

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag
Battlefield 4
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Crimson Dragon
Dead Rising 3
FIFA 14
Fighter Within
Forza Motorsport 5
Just Dance 2014
Killer Instinct
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
LocoCycle
Madden NFL 25
NBA 2K14
NBA Live 2014
Need for Speed: Rivals
Powerstar Golf
Ryse: Son of Rome
Skylanders: Swap Force
Xbox Fitness
Zoo Tycoon
Zumba Fitness

Sad to say, but I think the Xbox One has a better launch line-up than the Playstation 4 does.  Despite the flack Microsoft had throughout the year of promoting their system, the Xbox One actually has more exclusive titles that interest me.  Crimson Dragon, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, and Ryse: Son of Rome are among the exclusive titles that interest me.  Still, I don't plan to get an Xbox One and will be getting a PS4 much later.  With the Wii U, PS4 and now the Xbox One out, we can finally step into another generation of gaming.

GameLight - Wonder Flick

JP Site: http://www.wonderflick.jp/

From the makers of Professor Layton comes another game for mobile devices.  It seems Level-5 has really taken a liking to making games on mobile devices lately and their newest RPG is no exception.  More than that, their idea for this game is one that players can enjoy over many different platforms with the same progress intact.  So with this "Wonder Flick" game, you can play it on iOS, Android, Wii U, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One (or at least that's the plan) and the progress will be kept in the cloud/servers so that you can continue where you left off on any console.  As the name suggests, the player will be "Flicking" little coin icons to perform actions: Attack, using potions, defending, special attacks, etc.

What I'm more interested in is the soundtrack.  Did you happen to see whose name flashed in the trailer?  Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy fame had his name appear in the trailer with a music note which usually tells the viewer who is responsible for the music for that trailer.  Whether Uematsu will be responsible for all the music in the game is unclear at the moment, but it's something to look out for.  As for the game itself, it seems rather gimmicky and heavily focused on the mobile gaming audience.  But who knows, it might turn out to be really fun!  Where's the 3DS version?  I see this working better on 3DS than on PS Vita in terms of mechanics.  The game will be available in Japan on iOS and Android in November 2013 while PS3, PS Vita, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One versions will be available sometime in 2014.  No Western release has been announced thus far.

NewNews - Destiny on PC?

Official Site: http://www.bungie.net/en/Destiny
Source: Youtube Channel destinygame

Don't tease me like that Joystiq!  Apprently, Kotaku did the same in an original post for this video.  The game is set to release for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.  What a lot of players want was a release for PC as well as many First-Person Shooter fans like playing on their computers with a keyboard/mouse, ability to type messages to communicate, and (usually) better graphics.  But Bungie hasn't confirmed a PC release yet.  So when I saw that it was going to be released on "PC" as well on Joystiq's post, I got so excited.  But seeing Kotaku's note on their post made me double-check on the official website to see no version for PC.  Perhaps this is hinting/pressuring Bungie to add in a PC release as well.  My guess is that they are highlighting the new consoles (PS4/XB1) as much as possible.  Destiny on PC is still very possible, but no real confirmation has been announced yet.  The game's looking great and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Destiny is a First-Person Shooter developed by Bungie, the original creators of the Halo series, with open-world gameplay, online experiences, and RPG elements such as leveling up, gaining skills and grabbing loot.

GameLight - Titanfall

Official Site: http://www.titanfall.com/

Gamescom 2013 is happening right now!  One thing that I saw this morning that really stood out was the gameplay demo of Titanfall.  Titanfall is a First-Person Action Shooter that allows players to take control of large mechs, jump around great heights, and utilize an array of futuristic weaponry.  As much as I want to keep taking a break from FPS games, I keep getting pulled back in when something like Titanfall shows up and goes "this could be even better than the FPS before it!"  I've played a LOT of different FPS games, yet there always seems to be another that comes out that interests me despite the core game not changing too much.  Titanfall is the product of those who left Infinity Ward because of the dispute between the developer and Activision and had formed Infinity Ward because they had left Electronic Arts because of how much the team was limited to their creative development when making Medal of Honor and had gone back under Electronic Arts as Respawn Entertainment.  To put it simply, the developers continue to innovate and change the First-Person Shooter genre no matter what studio name they use or which publisher they work under.

From the video, not only is the graphics impressive, but the mobility and movement that the player is capable of is what really stood out for me.  The player must take into account height, jumping, and falling rather than running on ground level.  The high mobility and jump height boasts the idea of a much more faster-paced shooter rather than a tactical one which has been the forte of the genre due to the success of franchises such as Call of Duty and Battlefield.  Call of Duty got big under the development of Vince Zampella and Jason West, will Titanfall be the next big franchise for them?  Currently, the game is announced to launch on PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in the Spring of 2014.

NewNews - Code of Princess 2 on PS4 and XB1 would be fun

Code of Princess 1 Site: http://www.atlus.com/codeofprincess/
Source: Youtube Channel AtlusUSA

Code of Princess for the Nintendo 3DS wasn't the best game it could be.  Equipment acquirement wasn't that big of a deal since most of them were terrible with a few select items giving the best benefits.  The Campaign was short and didn't have various difficulty levels.  All the characters had a very limited amount of move sets and abilities.  And worst of all, the game's graphics lagged a lot for the 3DS XL with the 3D on and when explosions erupted on the screen.  Despite all those short comings, the game was a whole lot of fun and I enjoyed it a bunch.  The story was light-hearted and filled with humor, the graphics were colorful and lively, and the music was just brilliant.  It seems like the game sold better than anticipated in the US.  The producer has expressed his interests in perhaps making a sequel on the PS4 and XB1.  Now imagine how great the game already was and fixing every one of those problems I mentioned above?  I'm all for it and would love to see it on the next generation consoles with 4-player cooperative local play seeing how beat-em-ups and local multiplayer games are a dying trend.  Until then, there's Dragon's Crown coming out soon published by Atlus.

NewNews - Microsoft's Xbox One Relevant Again

Official Site: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xboxone/meet-xbox-one
Source: Youtube Channel xbox

It might have been the huge outcry the community had against the new console.  It could be because Microsoft was persistently scrutinized and criticized throughout E3 while Sony was showered with praise.  Or it just may very well be that Microsoft isn't meeting their quota on pre-orders for the Xbox One.  Whatever the case may be, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will not require constant internet connection or the need to check in every 24 hours to play games.  The console will be able to play used games and gamers can share their games with their friends without having to pay an extra fee.  This will be great news to those who were interested in the Xbox One but news of the DRM methods of the console deterred them; however, the damage has been done and was fixed a little too late.  Were this announced at E3, it would have been a completely different show.  Now it's just a matter of waiting for both consoles to launch this Fall and see how they do.

NewNews - Microsoft Xbox One Announced

Official Site: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xboxone/meet-xbox-one
Source: NBC News

So Microsoft finally revealed their new console today with the name "Xbox One".  I think it's a good decision in terms of name as I was expecting something like "Xbox 720".  It's an interesting name that can throw out a lot of catch phrases for their product such as the one on the front page that says "The all-in-'one' Entertainment System".  They can continue to use phrases like "This system is the 'one' to beat them all!" or "The Xbox is number 'one'".  But in any case, it's a decent name.

Rather than just a gaming device, Microsoft wants the Xbox One to fulfill all forms of media entertainment with music, internet, movie streaming, and video chatting.  There's a bit of controversy behind some of the design choices for the "Xbox One" though such as locking out used-games or requiring an internet connection for the initial start up.  Here's a quick run-down of the Xbox One:

Features:
- 8-core x86 processor; play games and run apps at the same time
- HDMI pass-thru; watch TV through the Xbox One
- 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive; Plenty of memory for all media
- Blu-ray reader for watching movies and having HD quality graphics
- Runs on Windows OS
- Improved Kinect functionality for voice/motion commands
- Updated Smartglass functionality
- Group conference skype calls
- Persistent game world changes even when not played
- Advanced AI learns how to play like you so friends can simulate playing with you
- Integrated match-matching technology for multiplayer games
- Play games while they're installing
- Supports up to 1,000 friends on buddy list

Controversy:
- Not always online, but requires internet connection to start up
- Not backward compatible with Xbox 360 and XBLA games
- Used-games requires an extra fee to play

What I don't know yet is whether an Xbox Live subscription fee will still be required and if it's needed to play the games that requires internet connection.  If that's the case, then the customer can't play any games unless they sign up for Xbox Live Subscription regardless if they play online or not.  I'm not too worried about any of this since I don't plan on getting an Xbox One, but I am afraid that this might influence similar decisions in Sony and Nintendo's products in the future.

Still, I can sympathize and support the concerns of those who do plan to get an Xbox One and must face these questionable decisions.  The listed controversies all point toward Microsoft's effort to prevent piracy and discouraging used-game sales and borrowing from friends/game rentals.  Not having backward compatibility for Xbox 360 games is understandable as it cuts down on hardware cost keeping the price more reasonable, but it shouldn't be too hard to implement compatibility with XBLA games.  I could be wrong though.  With piracy, I hope it works because it would really be insulting for all the paying customers having to go through the required internet connection and facing problems when it fails (Ubisoft has a history of games not working that requires internet connection) when those who pirate games will find a way to play without internet connection or problems.  It's happened in the past where those who pirate games have a better gaming experience than official games when they break down or fail to work because of an implemented DRM.  There has to be a better way to fight game piracy, right?

The Xbox One doesn't have a price tag yet and will probably be revealed at E3.
