GameLight - Wonder Flick

JP Site: http://www.wonderflick.jp/
Source: Youtube Channel Jeuxvideo24

From the makers of Professor Layton comes another game for mobile devices.  It seems Level-5 has really taken a liking to making games on mobile devices lately and their newest RPG is no exception.  More than that, their idea for this game is one that players can enjoy over many different platforms with the same progress intact.  So with this "Wonder Flick" game, you can play it on iOS, Android, Wii U, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One (or at least that's the plan) and the progress will be kept in the cloud/servers so that you can continue where you left off on any console.  As the name suggests, the player will be "Flicking" little coin icons to perform actions: Attack, using potions, defending, special attacks, etc.

What I'm more interested in is the soundtrack.  Did you happen to see whose name flashed in the trailer?  Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy fame had his name appear in the trailer with a music note which usually tells the viewer who is responsible for the music for that trailer.  Whether Uematsu will be responsible for all the music in the game is unclear at the moment, but it's something to look out for.  As for the game itself, it seems rather gimmicky and heavily focused on the mobile gaming audience.  But who knows, it might turn out to be really fun!  Where's the 3DS version?  I see this working better on 3DS than on PS Vita in terms of mechanics.  The game will be available in Japan on iOS and Android in November 2013 while PS3, PS Vita, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One versions will be available sometime in 2014.  No Western release has been announced thus far.

GameLight - Puyo Puyo Tetris

Source: Youtube Channel puyosega

Amitie is back with more Puyo Puyo going up against Tetris!  A Puyo Puyo crossover with Tetris isn't too surprising, but it's finally being made.  I've been a fan of both games for the longest time as most people have who play these puzzle games.  Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche have been two games that didn't use the name "Puyo" in the title that I played with Puyo Pop Fever being one of my favorite iterations of the series.  For Tetris, I'd say Tetris DS by was the best version of Tetris I have played for the best controls, mechanics, color scheme, and variety in modes.  So how much will the game change with these two mega puzzle blockbusters put together?  It doesn't seem much as both games have had versus mode in their respective games which seems to be the base concept for this crossover.  It doesn't seem all that different or game changing.  Why not go all out and have a super puzzle crossover!  Have games like Columns, Puzzle Fighter, Puzzle League, and maybe even Puzzle Bobble (Bust-A-Move) be part of the action and have the player choose which game they want to play and challenge other puzzle players.  Make it even more outrageous with 8 players instead of just 2!  But in all seriousness, I hope there's more to the game than just straight up versus PuyoPuyo against Tetris.  The game releases next year on PS3, PS Vita, Wii U, and 3DS in Japan.  No mention of a Western release has been made.

GameLight - Sonic Lost World

Official JP Site: http://sonic.sega.jp/SonicLostWorld/
Source: Youtube Channel IGN

I hope everyone had a peaceful and fulfilling long weekend!  I was surprised with a trailer for the newest Sonic game today which included gameplay!  It seems Nintendo has swept up another game for itself as an exclusive for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.  It reminds me of Super Mario Galaxy, but there has been mention that the game shows a lot of ideas from canceled Sonic game "Sonic X-treme".  When the game was mentioned last week, I heard it was going to involve dinosaurs and time travel to the past of some sort.  That really worried me.  Then I watch this video and the first thing that shows up is 6 very cartoon-ish, villain-type characters.  Though I haven't played Sonic Colors yet, it seems to have a similar aesthetic in character design.  I'm not sure what to think of the game yet, but I am happy to see another Sonic game.  It's going to be hard to live up to Sonic Generations, that's for sure.  No official release date, but supposedly out by the end of this year.  More information will probably be available at this year's E3.

NewNews - Good News for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U

Official Site: http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/archive/04-17-2013/
Source: Youtube Channel Nintendo

What is it exactly that the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U needs?  More games!  Nintendo, along with some other companies, have revealed more games for the 3DS and Wii U in development.

3DS:
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - August 11th
Mario Golf: World Tour - Summer 2013
Mario Party - Winter 2013-2014?
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D - May 24th
New Yoshi's Island Game - ???
Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move - May 9th
Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins - April 21st
Animal Crossing New Leaf - June 9th
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy - 2014 (THEY'RE REALLY BRINGING IT OVER!)
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy - ???
The Starship Damrey - ???
Bugs vs. Tanks - ???
Attack of the Friday Monsters: A Tokyo Tale - ???
Shin Megami Tensei IV - July 16th
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2? - Winter/Holidays 2013

Wii U:
New Super Luigi U - Summer 2013
Virtual Console - Next Week
Game and Wario - June 23

Although the Wii U is lacking in new releases, it's really good to hear all these new games being developed for the Nintendo 3DS.  I was most shocked about having Bravely Default being brought over to NA and the New Legend of Zelda game.  This year looks really good for the Nintendo 3DS.

VGCulture - Lots of releases next 3 days

I'm looking at what games are released this week and there's a lot worth mentioning!  We even have a Nintendo Wii game coming out!

La-Mulana - PC - 4/15/13
Source: Youtube Channel 256nigoro

La-Mulana in many aspects was developed the same way Cave Story did, in one man's free time.  It was released only in Japan back in 2005 and was first introduced in NA just last year in Fall on the WiiWare channel.  Today, it was released on Steam after it was greenlit and had the okay to be put up.  I hear it's a lot like Metroid in terms of traversing the levels and similar to Castlevania in terms of combat and gameplay.  I love these types of games, so I'll probably get it eventually.

Injustice: Gods Among Us - PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U - 4/16/13
If you like fighting games and DC Comics, this is probably the game for you.  Developed by the team who worked on Mortal Kombat, the world of DC comics is darker, gritty, and a lot more violent.  Despite loving fighting games and DC comics, I'm not that entirely excited about the game, but I know many others who are ecstatic about the idea and can't wait to get their hands on it tonight.

Pandora's Tower - Wii - 4/16/13
Probably the last great Wii game to come out of the console, Pandora's Tower is one of the games that was petitioned to be brought over along with Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story which NA got last year.  I gotta finish more Wii games so I can get around to these 3 great Wii games.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers - 3DS - 4/16/13

This one's a bit complicated to explain, but I guess you can say it's a remake of an old game.  SMT:DS Soul Hackers was originally released back in 1997 on the Sega Saturn and never saw a Western release.  It's a sequel to Devil Summoner, which also didn't see a Western release, and has been enhanced for the Nintendo 3DS.  This game is great for fans of cRPG/Dungeon-Crawl RPG.

God Mode - PS3, Xbox 360, PC - 4/16/13
Waves of enemies, lots of killing and destruction, seems like my sort of game.  In this action 3rd-person shooter, the player can customize their character appearance and I think some skills or loadout from leveling up and jump online to team up with 3 other players in a frantic co-op campaign.  I'm conflicted on whether to get this game or not right now, mainly because I have so many other games that need my attention in finishing.  But the rest of you that don't need to worry about it should check it out since it's only $9.99 ($8.99 for pre-purchase).

Sacred Citadel - PS3, Xbox 360, PC - 4/17/13
Old School beat-em-ups are rare nowadays, so it's always great to hear new ones that come out.  The 3DS has Code of Princess, Xbox 360 got an HD version of Guardian Heroes while PS3/PSV will have Dragon's Crown, but what about PC?  (Okay, there's Dungeon Fighters Online, but their servers terminate this June).  Sacred Citadel brings back old-school beat-em-ups with a modern touch.  Three players can cooperatively play together as one of four classes.  This is also another game I'm going to keep an eye out for.

Besides Injustice: Gods Among Us, I think I'll be getting each of these games by the end of the year.  I just need to clear out my games that I already have first.

GameLight - DuckTales Remastered

Capcom Blog: WOO-HOO! DuckTales is back
Source: Youtube Channel CapcomUnityVideos

I guess this was revealed at PAX East and then caught wind everywhere else.  I saw this posted on facebook multiple times but didn't care too much about it.  I didn't get to play the original NES version of the game, but it seems to carry a lot of memories for lots of gamers.  What I did do was watch the animated series everyday.  So when I decided to watch the trailer to see how "remastered" the game looked and started to hear the original theme song for the show, I instantly fell into crazy nostalgia and starting singing along with the song still knowing how it went.  It was a great move to have a sing-a-long with footages of gameplay for the trailer.  It captures the essence of what viewers of the show and players of the game remembers: the vibrant characters and environment, the catchy music, and the platforming.  Unfortunately for me it's set to release on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U thus far and I don't purchase digital games for consoles.  Perhaps there will be a PC/Steam version down the road.  If that should happen, I should look for the original game and play through it so I can have a better feel of comparison like I did with Bionic Commando.  DuckTales Remastered releases Summer of this year 2013.

VGCulture - Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Opening

Official Wii U Site: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Source: Youtube Channel CapcomUnityVideos

Look what CapcomUnityVideos released on Youtube today.  Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is an Action-RPG that has the capabilities to play with 3 other players locally or online (online play for Wii U only) to fight boss battle after boss battle essentially.  The monsters in the game are enormous and require a lot of patience and coordination to take down.  Players will also be hunting less threatening monsters for food and materials to continue on their quest.  The opening sure is nice.  Sadly, I'm currently busy with two new 3DS games I got and won't be able to get just yet.  For those waiting to start slashing and killing dragons and whatnot, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate releases March 19th, 2013 for the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS.

GameLight - Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS)

English Wiki: http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Hunter_Wiki
Source: Youtube Channel IGN

I love boss fights in videogames, and Capcom games generally have a lot of awesome boss fights in their games from the original Mega Man games to their more recent games like the Devil May Cry series or Dragon's Dogma.  One particular series in Japan revolves around big boss battles and has since became a huge hit.  But over here in the West, the name "Monster Hunter" doesn't hold much weight and is viewed as a niche game among the community.  Despite not having a strong following in the West, Capcom has continued bringing the Monster Hunter series over and this time it will release on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS.

The Demo for Monster Hunter 3 for the 3DS had released and so I quickly downloaded it yesterday to get a taste of it.  I have played a bit of the Monster Hunter series in the past for the Sony PSP and know that I enjoy the game, but I didn't continue playing very long back then as I had many other PSP games I wanted to play on the system and didn't want to spend the time on what could've been 100+ hours slaying giant dragons and beasts.  I now have the opposite problem where the Nintendo 3DS is lacking in games I want to play and want something with high replay value.  So I was pretty excited to hear that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was being brought over to the West.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a sort of Action-RPG that isn't quite straight-forward and story driven.  The player goes out into the field and hunts beasts for food, gather materials for crafting, and fight large monsters per request as quests.  In doing so, the player gradually becomes stronger with better equipment.  The main draw of the game is multiplayer where several players band together to fight a giant boss together.  In the 3DS demo, players can choose 1 of 2 scenarios to take on which requires the player to take down a boss under 20 minutes.  I was given the choice to pick a weapon out of 12 different types to take on the boss.  The demo is very tricky for those who have never played a Monster Hunter game as it doesn't explain the mechanics of the game or controls and thrusts the player into the field.  Using a bow was really tough in terms of aiming and I imagine having the 2nd analog stick attachment would make it infinitely better; however, the lock-on ability made controlling the camera a bit more tolerable.  Instead of an over-the-top hack-n-slash and ultra slick combat mechanics found in games like Devil May Cry, the Monster Hunter series has the characters move in a sort of rigid way that is more realistic.  In this manner, all attacks, actions, and item usage is planned out, strategic, and meaningful.  It is impossible to mash buttons and hope to win, and I suppose that's what makes the multiplayer formula work so well with the game as party members rely on each other to succeed in a quest.  The boss fights are incredibly tough but very exciting.  20 minutes may seem like a lot of time to fight one boss, but it doesn't seem so after all the fighting, surviving, and preparation.  Judging from my experience on the PSP version of Monster Hunter, the demo for the 3DS is showing a minuscule amount of content that is truly offered in the game.  Personally, I don't think it's an easy game to get into for most gamers, but those that can grasp the concept of the game and find interest in it is rewarded with a gratifying experience.  The biggest problem I find in the Nintendo 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate right now is the lack of Online multiplayer.  There's a local multiplayer mode, but I rarely ever see anyone with a 3DS around the people I know and I doubt they'll get the game if they do have one.  This falls into Capcom's seemingly big scheme: the Nintendo Wii U has online multiplayer and can share save data with the 3DS, but you have to buy both individually.  Cross-play support is a growing trend that's showing up often in Sony's systems where a player can buy a PS3 version of a game and get a free download for the PS Vita to play and share save data between the PS3.  That's a neat idea.  But it seems Capcom or Nintendo (I don't know who it goes through to make cross play possible) wants players to pay for both versions which equals $100.  This puts me in a difficult situation.  I want to play the game, but I also want to play online.  I don't have a Nintendo Wii U so I have to get the 3DS version if I want to play it at all.  If only the 3DS had online play, it'd be just perfect.  In any case, fans of the series should really check out the demo for both 3DS or Wii U depending on which ones they have if at all while those new to the series should check up on some guides online to know a little about the game.  In fact, I'll write out the controls right here for a head start:

Circle Pad: Move Character
Digital Pad: Pan Camera

Weapon Sheathed
Y: Use Item
X: Draw/Ready Weapon
A: Interact/Action Key
B: Crouch (While Standing) / Tumble (While moving)

L: Reset Camera Forward (Tap) / Bring up belt menu (Hold)
R: Run (Hold)

Weapon Drawn
Y: Sheath Weapon
X: Regular Attack
A: Alternate Attack
B: Back Step (While Standing) / Tumble (While moving)

L: Reset Camera Forward (Tap) / Bring up belt menu (Hold)
R: Alternate Attack 2

For Bows, Press X and A at the same time to coat your Arrows in substances

Good luck, Have fun, and check the game out to see if it's for you.

NewNews - Nintendo Wii U ZombiU Bundle out Feb. 17

Wii U Page: http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu/features/
Source: Youtube Channel IGN

Looks like there will be a special bundle on its way for the Nintendo Wii U that includes many things that will prepare players for upcoming releases.  Aside from the Deluxe version of the main console that holds 32 GB worth of memory and the Wii U Pad, the bundle will include a Pro Controller, a copy of ZombiU, a free download of NintendoLand and an exclusive art book for ZombiU for $389.99.

To list them:
-Wii U Console
-Wii U Pad
-Pro Controller
-ZombiU Game
-ZombiU Art Book
-Free NintendoLand download

That's the console, 2 games to play, a pro controller for all other games that might need them, and a special bonus art book.  It's $40 more expensive than just the Deluxe Set by itself, but $70 cheaper than buying the Deluxe set, Pro Controller, and ZombiU game together, saving enough money for another purchase of a game.  The Bundle is set to release on February 17th.  I wonder how long this bundle will stick around?  It's definitely a consideration for me should I decide to buy a Nintendo Wii U.  Thanks for sharing the news Joystiq!

NewNews - New Xeno Game

Source: Youtube Channel Games

This year just keeps looking better and better!  I keep seeing posts about a Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem collaboration, a Wind Waker remake, and other such announcements my friends posted up on facebook so I decided to look up some videos to check them out.  What really caught my attention was a game marked as "X" at the end of the trailer which looks a lot like Xenoblade Chronicles.  It looks so beautiful on such a grand scale.  If Nintendo keeps up with the amount of support that they have now, they'll have no problem in the new generation of consoles.  At the moment, there isn't much information about the new Xeno game, but I'm already convinced into getting it just by looking at this one minute trailer.

GameLight - Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed PC

Team Fortress 2 Post: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=9761
Steam Page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/212480/
Source: Youtube Channel SegaAmerica

I always try to find a way to hang onto Sonic the Hedgehog despite negative feedback from the community on how it's the end of days for the blue speed demon and of course having to endure 1/3 of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.  I remember seeing Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing on sale for $4.99 on steam and felt compelled to buy it, but ended up not since I'm still working through my crazy backlog.  So when I heard the sequel was coming out, I was thinking of getting that instead.  The game has already released on most systems other than the 3DS and PC.  Just revealed today are 3 new characters exclusive to the Steam PC version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed: The guy from Football Manager, one of the shogunates from Total War: Shogun, and the Heavy, Pyro, and Spy from Team Fortress 2 who I believe appear as one unit but changes depending on the vehicle.  I also saw Joe Musashi from the Shinobi series in the trailer.  I'm not much of a racing game fan, but I do enjoy the more crazier and unrealistic racing games if I do play one.  I also have a lot of fond memories of Sega games and their characters so this game is a huge treat to Sega fans.  Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is currently available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS Vita, and will be available for PC on January 31st and Nintendo 3DS on February 13th.  As a pre-order special on Steam, the game is 10% off for $26.99 until it is released and will return to its original price of $29.99.

GameLight - Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge

Official Site: http://ninjagaiden3.nintendo.com/characters.html#momiji
Source: Youtube Channel RajmanGamingHD

For those who remembers or played the game, Ryu Hayabusa has an apprentice named Momiji who appeared in Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the Nintendo DS.  Well, it has been revealed that she is making a return and will be a playable character in Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge for the Nintendo Wii U.  Her chest size wasn't that large in Dragon Sword, but perhaps she's more grown up or it just looks different in 3D?  She is capable to wielding a naginata and down multiple foes with its long range and wide arc.  I keep hearing about a 2-player co-op mode, but it's not clear whether it is exclusively for Online play or if it's possible to have one person on the Wii U pad and one on the TV screen.  These new additions and changes to the game has changed my stance on getting the game for the PS3 as the Wii U seems to define the game the developers wanted to release a lot better.  First things first: finish up more games, buy and complete Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, THEN buy a Wii U and this game.  Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge will release as a launch title for the Nintendo Wii U which supposedly releases this Sunday.  I hope to see Momiji appear in other Ninja Gaiden games in the future.

VGCulture - Nintendo Wii U Sighted!

Official Site: http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu
Source: Youtube Channel gamespot

I was at Target yesterday to check out the buy 2 get 1 free sale and saw a demo display of the Nintendo Wii U in the electronics section.  Sadly, there weren't any demo games to try out, but it at least showed what the controller looked like and had demo videos of some of the games that's going to release alongside the launch.  It feels a bit awkward which is probably why Nintendo decided to create a dedicated hardcore gamer controller for certain games.  I can see the gamepad controller coming into play for a lot of other games though.  The gamepad's actually really light, so the player wouldn't get tired that easily from holding it.  But the ergonomic is a bit odd.  For me, I guess I'm just not used to the controller yet, but at least it's not entirely uncomfortable.  Those with smaller hands like children or those with much larger hands of adults maybe have difficulty holding the controller comfortably for long durations; however, I imagine Nintendo and other developers to make more use of the touch screen on the gamepad rather than using the keys.  It's hard to tell whether the Nintendo Wii U will take off on launch day.  There's a lot of neat games that have been showcased for the Wii U so far, but there hasn't been a true killer software for it yet.  I just hope developers are more willing to support the system and create more games on it than the lack of support we've seen for the Nintendo 3DS the past year and a half.  The Nintendo Wii U launches on November 18th, 2012 about two weeks from now.

NewNews - Wii U Announcement

Official Site: http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu
Source: Youtube Channel IGNentertainment

In 2011, the amount of Wii games released was minuscule and the ones that did were mostly overlooked other than main stay franchises such as Zelda and Kirby.  It was no surprise that the Wii U was announced and was being pushed forward as Nintendo's next step into the market.  Nintendo has finally announced today that the new Nintendo console will be available on November 18th, 2012 with two versions: Wii U Basic White with 8-GB worth of memory for $299.99 and Wii U Deluxe Black with 32-GB worth of memory for $349.99.  It's a bit pricy, but not unreasonable.

Like with any other console, there needs to be a reason to get them.  Usually, the reason is to play the games available for them.  The one game that caught many gamer's attention at this year's E3 was ZombiU.  It looked dark, gritty, challenging, and a bit more for the core gamer.  What seems to be the case is that Nintendo is welcoming back their hardcore gamers back into the community as they have been largely ignored throughout the lifespan of the Nintendo Wii.  Games such as Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed 3, Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 have been generally for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and was never available to the Nintendo Wii (with the exception of Call of Duty games having dumbed down ports).  With a traditional controller available, Nintendo hopes to bring back their core gaming community (probably because their casual gamers started to abandon them for mobile and social games).

Right now, two games have been announced for the Wii U that has caught my attention and has me seriously considering buying one.  One of them is Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper.  I was happy to hear that it was brought over to the Western market, but was disappointed when I found out that the PS3 version was digital download only.  There is another chance now that a retail version will be released for the Wii U in the Western market.  That'll be one game I'd really like.  The other being this one:

The first Bayonetta was Console exclusive to PS3 and Xbox 360.  But it seems like Nintendo and Sega has agreed to release a sequel exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U.  That's very sneaky.  But I imagine more great games will release for the Wii U that will make owning the system worth while.  I hope the same is true for the Nintendo 3DS.  I'm happy I own one now, but I'm still lacking games for the system.  That Super Smash Bros. title mentioned earlier in the year would be a great addition to the 3DS.  Here's hoping for a successful launch and fruitful gaming for the Nintendo Wii U!

Release Date: November 18th, 2012
   -Wii U Basic White (8GB) - $299.99
   -Wii U Deluxe Black (32GB) - $349.99
