VGCulture - Filler - SSBM Final Destination

Sorry to leave you all with another filler, but it's a fitting follow up to yesterday's post.  Though a lot of fans of competitive Smash Bros. are excited about Project M, those who like to play casually are reminded how some people take the game a little too seriously and suck all the fun out of the game for them.  This little video, although facetious, does a good job of summing up what happens when you play with those who only want to play Smash Bros. seriously:
Source: Youtube Channel swordsman3003

So those worried that Project M just reinforces the competitive nature of the series, let me reassure you that anyone can still have fun with it.  Smash Bros. is like any other Fighting game where it provides a lot of depth in their game mechanics for further competitive play but will ultimately have distinguished skill levels among those who play it.  If you want to play more casually with items on and with special settings, do so.  There are definitely still people who play this casually, and Sakurai has already stated that he wants to produce a true party game that anyone could enjoy for the series.  I'm very excited to see how the next Smash Bros. turns out.

VGCulture - Mega64 performing Hotline Miami

Source: Youtube Channel RoccoB64

Mega64 have been doing videogame related videos for years now and have gotten into a lot of trouble in public many times before.  They get into all sorts of shenanigans around people unaware that they're shooting a video and often times get the police called on them.  So when I heard that they did a video based on the violent retro-styled game "Hotline Miami", I was instantly interested and scared at the same time.  The video does justice to the game but does get them in trouble...again.  For those interested in playing the game, it's available on Steam for $9.99.

VGCulture - GameGrumps

Youtube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/GameGrumps?feature=watch
Source: Youtube Channel GameGrumps (Link above)

I heard of Egoraptor working on a collaboration of some sort, but I guess it totally escaped my attention that they've been releasing videos for a while now.  To be exact, they already have 243 videos uploaded.  Egoraptor, JonTron, and The Game Station have teamed up to bring the GameGrumps where they play and talk about various games from the past and present.  They're known as "Grump" and "Not So Grump" in these series of videos.  I haven't had the chance to watch any of them yet, but maybe I'll find the time in the next few days.  Enjoy their videos for the next few days as I'll be taking a break tomorrow and Friday.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving and stay safe for Black Friday sales.

I'm a bit tight on time today, so here's a little filler.  We all know how awesome Terry Crews is, so they decided to interview him:

VGCulture - Filler - How do you pronounce Bahamut?

Official Site: http://www.dorkly.com/originals

It's always a bit tricky pronouncing certain words in video games when voice acting wasn't used that often (and even then, some names were/are being mispronounced).  Some words and names just don't sound like what they're spelled, like Gaiden, Kage, Melee, Drow, or the ever so popular: Mana.

Thanks Dorkly, your videos make me smile.

VGCulture - Videogame Lore in a Minute

Youtube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/lore
Source: Youtube Channel Lore (Link on top)

I've noticed a few "lore" videos on Youtube that tells the story of a game or series in the past, but I didn't realize how many of them were made.  One of them was uploaded and posted yesterday that talk about the Guild Wars lore probably due to the Guild Wars 2 Beta that begins today for those who pre-purchased it.  These "lore" videos is a minute long short written, edited, drawn, animated, and voiced by various youtubers from the videogame community.  They're short, informative, and quite humorous.  I do have to warn those who watch them that they contain all the main plots of a game and so if you've never played that game and plan to, don't watch it.  I had to cut the Mass Effect video short as I realized there were quite a bit of plot twists I didn't want ruined.  Yes, I'm still on the first Mass Effect since I lost my save files a 2nd time from my laptop crashing back in January.  Anyways, I wish you all good weekend.  Happy testing to those in the beta for Guild Wars 2!

VGCulture - Filler - Shoryuken too OP

A lot of people claim that Ken's shoryuken has too much priority hits over every other attack in Super Street Fighter IV.  Hmm, I wonder why:

VGCulture - April Fools 2012

Every April Fools, I stay away from the internet to avoid being fooled by videogame news that may be worthy of an actual release or concept.  However, I always check all of them out the next day and see what hilarious or cruel joke people or even game companies have created for the public.  Here's what I found this year:

Source: Youtube Channel SegaAmerica

This would actually be an interesting mini-game for any of Sega's main games.  I mean, all games seem to have some sort of undead these days.  Sega added zombies to Yakuza.  Rockstar Games added zombies to Red Dead Redemption.  I can totally see zombie fishes in Bass Fishing, lol.

Source: Youtube Channel DiabloChronicle

Blizzard has made April Fools jokes in the past, but they're usually evident to being jokes.  Still, a few of them this year got me laughing.  This is one of them.

Source: Youtube Channel Google

Although it isn't "laugh out loud" hilarious, the novelty of the concept was rather entertaining. You can mess around with the map here.

[Half-Life 3 Site Prank]
Possibly the most cruelest prank to the videogame community this year was a deviously well constructed duplicate site of Valve's Steam platform with all the working parts with one major difference: A featured front page of what's seemly Half-Life 3. Fans of the series have been begging for Half-Life 2: Episode 3, so seeing an image such as that tugged on the hearts of many and shattered all hope when realizing it was a fake. Fortunately for me, I don't really care since I'm hardly done with Half-Life 2 (and my backlog is still ridiculous).

This was my favorite April Fools this year.  The last 30 seconds is what made the video worth watching.

VGCulture - Filler - Battlefield 3 with Super Mario Sounds

I saw this posted on Kotaku today!

Source: Youtube Channel DerpShark

It's rather entertaining watching gameplay of Battlefield 3 like this.  It kind of makes me wish I could have those sounds when I play it.  The video was created and compiled by DerpShark who seems to have quite a few funny videos based on Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.  This is another one of them:

Gah, I can't believe I missed making a post earlier today.  It's been a busy day, and I'm already too tired to make a post.  But hey, I have a video to show that will make you laugh!  I ran into this while playing BlazBlue Continuum Shift last week:

VGCulture - Filler with Pokemon

I just spent several hours writing a review for Terraria only to realize that I already did one back in July.  I was confused when I couldn't find it on my own blog and thought "wow, the game I spent the most time on this year doesn't have my review yet?"  Well, I found it...a bit too late and now I'm too tired to do another post.  I have a lot of reviews to do the next few weeks, but I'm done for today.  Enjoy this Pokemon Parody and be mindful that it's NSFW.  Created by Egoraptor:

VGCulture - Filler - FF14 Comic

Source: http://www.nerfnow.com/comic/image/583
Well they can try.  Hellgate was revived, though I'm not sure how it's currently doing.  The point is that they're trying.  I don't think it was that FF14 was a broken game as much as it was an outdated formula.  People didn't want to play FF11 again with a few changes and especially if they have to pay monthly for it.  There are too many other games to invest time and money on if there isn't anything in particular interest that the game can offer.  Honestly, I'd give the game a try if I didn't have to pay monthly (I wouldn't mind paying once for the game and play for free afterwards like Guild Wars did).

VGCulture - The Trenches

If you haven't heard, the creators of PVPonline.com and Penny-Arcade.com (both webcomics that started in 1997 and 1998 respectively) have joined forces to bring you their new webcomic "The Trenches".  It tells an on-going story of a guy getting a job as a game tester and his life in the industry.
Source: http://trenchescomic.com/comic/post/once-more-unto-the-trench
I just finished my last day at the company I worked at this week and now am looking for a job once more (though I have been for the past year since it was a temporary job to begin with).  Looking at this strip got me to laugh a bit because it is very relevant to our modern day employment.  What does "Over-Qualified" really mean?  It means you have the credentials to get paid well for the job you do and that the company doesn't want to pay that much.  They rather have someone without a degree with the same amount of skill that could do the same job for a lesser pay.  A lot of companies have outsourced their work to oversea workers where they pay dirt cheap for a position they would have to pay much more, even if it was minimum wage.  It seems that the game industry is starting to outsource their jobs in art, programming and game testing to oversea workers as well now.  The recession in our economy only makes it more tempting for company CEOs to make the decision to outsource their positions, so it gets harder for those trying to look for a job here.  I think I'll like this webcomic as it will be relevant to what I'm doing/want to do (game testing/game development).  You can check out the webcomic and the other ones the creators have been working on for over a decade here:
